KIRBY, John "Todd"


With heavy hearts, we share that John Todd Kirby, 76, passed away peacefully at his home in Burlington, Ontario on March 16, 2024, surrounded by family. Born in Hamilton. Survived by his wife of 53 years, Jennie; children Christophe­r (Dana), Patrick (Patti) and Kelly; loving grandfathe­r of Matthew (Nicole), Jaimee, and Sean; great-grandfathe­r of Elio and Neely. Survived by his brother Grant and predecease­d by his parents Joseph and Helen (nee Todd) Kirby and sister Mary Francis.

Todd was kind, generous and devoted to those who knew him. He loved teaching and was well-liked by students and fellow teachers alike at Barton Secondary School (Hamilton Board of Education) where he taught mathematic­s, computers and art. A keen artist and craftsman, Todd generously shared his time and talents through paintings, woodwork, carpentry and even the occasional barnraisin­g.

Todd enjoyed travelling with family and eagerly anticipate­d his annual canoe trips to Killarney and Algonquin Park, and cherished the camaraderi­e of friends and the tranquilit­y of nature.

The family would truly like to thank all the dedicated healthcare workers who made it possible for Todd to remain in the comfort of his home and in the midst of family life. Visitation at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stop light north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632 -3333) on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Gabriel's Roman Catholic Church, 2261 Parkway Drive on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at 10:00 a.m
