The Congregati­on of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada are saddened to announce the death of Sister Christina Straus at St. Joseph's Residence in London, on March 16, 2024 in her 73rd year as a Sister of St. Joseph. Sister Christina was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary Barbara, (Ditner). She was predecease­d by her brothers, Wilfred, Ralph (Hilda), Jacob (Joyce). Gerard (Helen), Eugene, (Margaret), her sisters, Reta, Adeline, (Don Haber), Sister Caroline CSJ, Sister Michaeline SSND, Sister Mildred SSND and her botherin-law, Jack Delisle. She is survived by her sisters, Sister Lucy CSJ, and Lucille (Delisle) of Chiliwack, BC. She will be remembered and missed with love by nieces and nephews, their families, and the members of her religious family. Sister Christina was born in 1932 and grew up in a large and hard- working family. Before entering religious life, she used her organizati­onal gifts as a secretary. After entering the congregati­on, she trained to become a teacher. Sister brought to Ministry a deep faith, great dedication, caring and self-giving. Sister Christina ministered for 23 years as a teacher in Stoney Creek, Kenilworth and Guelph, Ont., and Fort St. John and Dawson Creek, B.C. Her quiet, gentle spirit and warm smile endeared her to the primary students who especially enjoyed the bunnies and baby chicks brought into the classroom, as well as the yearly trips to the maple sugar bush. Sister Christina shared her gifts generously for 20 years as Parish Minister in Guelph and Elmira. Sister Christina returned to the Motherhous­e in Hamilton where she continued her favourite hobby of rug hooking. In 2019 Sister Christina was welcomed into the Care Centre at the London Residence. We are grateful to all those who cared for her especially, Sister Lucy Public Visitation will take place at Holy Rosary Parish, 287 Plains Road East, Burlington Wednesday. March 20 from 2:00 to 4pm. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Holy Rosary Parish on Thursday, March 21 at 10:30am. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Burlington, will follow.
