Joseph Catana and his daughter Lavinia Trent are hoping to raise the bar on “what builders could attempt in Brant County” through 12 colossal lots on Sass Crescent in Paris, listing agent Michelle Topic told The Spectator.

Tucked in a new development area west of Rest Acres Road, the model home is the first of three 8,000-square-foot “modern mansions” to be built, according to the listing.

The eight-bed, eight-and-ahalf bath model home sold for $3 million at the grand opening, and is feasibly one of the biggest houses in the area, Topic said. Two other lots in the development are for similarly sized homes, with three lots designated for a footprint around 4,000 square feet, and six lots in the 3,000 square foot range.

Catana is behind more than 3,000 homes built around the province over the past 30 years, as well as the palatial Catana Estate wedding and event venue in Drumbo, said Topic.

Born in Romania, the builder uses materials imported from Europe in his homes, Topic said.

“They really wanted to bring that quality here,” Topic said.

She added that it’s important to Catana that no two houses on the street look exactly the same — even if two buyers select the same style of home, he’ll make modifications to ensure they’re distinct from one another.

Despite the opulence, the Carnaby Homes website suggests the homes lend themselves to family living, a sentiment Topic echoed, citing two elementary schools — Cobblestone and Sacred Heart — within walking distance.

“When you drive around in the morning, you can see families walking their kids to school,” she said, adding it’s a prime way to experience “what we think is the best of our little town.”
