Local businesses, non-profits honoured at awards gala

Leggat Auto Group, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton and Hamilton both recognized for their contributi­ons to the community over the last 100 years

The Hamilton Chamber of Commerce has announced the winners of its annual Outstandin­g Business Achievemen­t Awards (OBAAs).

The 40th annual honours were handed out during a gala at Carmen’s Banquet Centre on April 10.

This year’s awards recognized local businesses and organizati­ons for their achievemen­ts as well as their “commitment to excellence, innovation and community service,” chamber CEO Greg Dunnett said in a statement.

“Whether you operate a small startup or lead a century-old institutio­n in our community, your contributi­ons play an integral role in shaping the economic landscape of our city and driving us toward a brighter future,” said Dunnett.

Personal injury lawyer Rebecca Wissenz received the Hamilton Citizen of the Year award, while

Tiffany Simkins of Scaling Creative Guild was dubbed CEO of the Year.

Hamilton Sports Group was also honoured with a special Tourism Champion of the Year award for their role in planning and operating the 110th Grey Cup and the 2023 Grey Cup Festival.

The winners of the OBAAs are: Small business Get in the Loop Hamilton, a digital platform that helps local businesses connect with their communitie­s through promotions, deals and giveaways. Mid-sized business 360 Energy, an Ancaster-based consulting firm that helps organizati­ons face the challenges of climate change through guidance on carbon, market strategies and organizati­onal changes.

Large business Nerva Energy, a company that provides energy conservati­on solutions to companies and organizati­ons, such as Nike, Mohawk College and Indwell.

Young entreprene­ur Main Stage Rehearsal Studios, a 30,000square-foot rehearsal space on King Street East that offers monthly and hourly studios, a showcase room as well as retail and equipment rental services. Not-for-profit Mission Services Hamilton, a multi-sector agency that supports folks facing food insecurity, homelessne­ss, precarious housing and addiction. Inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibil­ity Workforce Planning Hamilton, a local planning organizati­on that looks to find solutions to labour market issues through a community-oriented approach. Century award Leggat Auto Group and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton and Hamilton were both honoured for their contributi­ons to the community over the last 100 years.
