THE BLACKHAWKS WERE STILL a year away from a renaissance led by Denis Savard, Steve Larmer, Al Secord and Doug Wilson. But on a gray night in another losing season, Mulvey lit up Chicago Stadium with a team-record five goals and seven points. Mulvey scored 30 times in 1981-82, and collected 149 goals and 284 points during his 586game NHL career.

The affable Mulvey was known more for physical play than finesse. On his big night, he scored four times in the first period, cashing in on close-in chances set up by Savard and Terry Ruskowski.
