>TONY LESWICK

-

JUST 5-FOOT-7 AND 160 pounds, Leswick was nicknamed ‘Mighty Mouse’ and made a career of driving Maurice ‘Rocket’ Richard to distraction during the playoffs. And in 1954, Leswick really stuck a dagger in the Canadiens, when during overtime in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup final, he lobbed a puck into the Canadiens’ end that Doug Harvey tried to bat out of the air before knocking it into the Canadiens net. It still remains the last time the Cup final was decided in OT in Game 7. In fact, hockey lore has it that the Red Wings went out and traded for Leswick from the New York Rangers because he had such success keeping Gordie Howe off the scoresheet. Leswick took on a much less prominent role in Detroit but continued to be one of the league’s most notorious pests.
