HERE’S AN INTERESTING STAT: No player in NHL history has as many combined points and penalty minutes as the 4,585 that Hunter accumulated during his career. Tiger Williams is second on the list, and he’s more than 100 behind with a combined 4,484. It was only fitting that when Hunter’s No. 32 was retired by the Washington Capitals, he was presented with the demolished remains of the Capital Centre penalty box. He remains the only player to rack up 1,000 points and 3,000 PIM, and his 21-game suspension for drilling Pierre Turgeon from behind in the 1993 Eastern Conference final represented the longest suspension for an on-ice indiscretion at the time. Late in his career with the Colorado Avalanche, Hunter played on a line with Fleury and Lemieux. Never in league history had three more hated players been put on the same line.
