WILLIAMS, THE NHL’S ALL-TIME leader in PIM, earned a spot in the 1981 NHL All-Star Game, playing on the top line with Wayne Gretzky and Mike Bossy. In his final two years of junior with the WHL’s Swift Current Broncos, Williams had 210 points and 576 PIM. How does anyone do that? He continued his belligerent but productive ways in the NHL, racking up 300-plus PIM six times, including 1980-81 when he led Vancouver with 35 goals and 343 PIM. Williams was not a pest in the true sense in that he was willing to drop his gloves and fight – and often did so – but he earns pest status simply for his stick-riding goal celebration. In 1987, he became probably the only NHL player in history to publish a cookbook. More recently, Williams was in the news in February when he was charged with sexual assault in connection to an alleged incident on a Canadian military flight. A court date was pending.
