SAN JOSE

There’s a whole lot of permutating and combinating going on in San Jose this off-season. There’s a good chunk of dollars on the table (probably $20 million) and a variety of ways to spend it. Tomas Hertl, Chris Tierney and Dylan DeMelo are all RFAs and will combine for close to half that available cap space after breakout seasons. The question is what to do with the other $11 million (or more if Paul Martin’s $4.85 million is bought out). Does UFA JOE THORNTON come back at a discount from his $8 million? Does UFA Evander Kane sign and stay? Do the Sharks instead throw the whole wad at UFA John Tavares, as is speculated?
