RED WINGS
DETROIT
The downside of breaking in so many young players simultaneously is their contracts all come up for renewal simultaneously, which will make for a busy summer for GM Ken Holland. The core of the team’s forward group – DYLAN LARKIN, Anthony Mantha, Andreas Athanasiou, Tyler Bertuzzi and Martin Frk – are all RFAs. It’s highly unlikely any of them will receive an offer sheet, so the Red Wings do have a degree of control, but Larkin and Mantha will surely merit long-term deals. And if last year’s cantankerous negotiations with Athanasiou are any indication, arbitration looks like a very real possibility. The Wings have just under $23 million in cap space, and that will get eaten up quickly.
