HALL OF FAME LOCK-O-METER
The Hockey Hall of Fame’s recent induction classes have been unpredictable, but we can count on hearing one name called for 2020 BY MATT LARKIN
SKIP THE LINE
> JAROME IGINLA
Hall calls don’t get any easier. ‘Iggy’ led the league in goals twice and points once, he was a three-time first-team all-star, won two Olympic golds and his 625 goals rank 16th alltime. One of the best never to win a Cup.
BETTER WITH AGE
> ROD BRIND’AMOUR Three-time Selke man Guy Carbonneau earned a shocking induction in 2019. That’s big for Brind’Amour. He’s a two-time Selke man and a Cup champ, and he had almost double the points. Eligible since 2013.
LOOK WORTH ANOTHER
> KEITH TKACHUK
Few players have embodied the power-forward ideal like Tkachuk. He’s one of three in the
500-goal/2,000penalty-minute club and one of four to hit
50 goals and 200 PIM in the same season. Eligible since 2013.
PAID HIS DUES
> DANIEL ALFREDSSON Yes, ‘Alfie’ is Cupless and his only major NHL award was the 1996 Calder, but he enjoyed a long, consistent career – 1,157 points. He endured the Dead Puck Era, averaging 76 points per 82 games. Eligible since 2017.
NEW ARRIVAL
> MARIAN HOSSA The three-time Stanley Cup champ never won a major individual award, but he was one of the best goal-scorers of his generation, finding twine 525 times, and he was an elite two-way forward.
HALL OF VERY GOOD
> PATRIK ELIAS He’s won multiple Cups, and he hit 1,000 points, but was he ever even a top-10 player in the league aside from 2000-01? He was a first-team all-star and finished sixth in Hart voting that season. Eligible since 2019.
