Jersey HOUND

The Hockey News - - BUZZ - – RYAN KENNEDY

IOWA WILD | 2019-20 THE AHL HAD SOME sweet throwback sweaters this season, from a Miracle on Ice-inspired creation in Springfield to San Antonio reppin’ the Iguanas of the old Central League. But my favorite was Iowa going retro with a Des Moines Oak Leafs jersey.

The Oak Leafs played in the IHL from 1963 to

1972, rocking North Stars colors with a Toronto vibe on the crest. But much like the classic Fort Wayne Komets, the Oak Leafs distinguished themselves with a fun little hockey guy mascot within the leaf.

Iowa brought back the look for a heritage night, which featured high-school games that included the current Des Moines Oak Leafs.

At 36, McDonald had the pleasure of ending his career with his first Cup. The photo of him in the dressing room, clutching the Cup, eyes closed, totally at peace, has become an emblem to symbolize the sacrifices every player makes to win a title.
