NEW FACES IN NEW PLACES
Along with Ron Francis as GM and Dave Hakstol as coach in Seattle, there will be a number of new people behind NHL desks and benches this season. But in what is something of an anomaly, a good number of those roles will be occupied by people who are not part of the NHL Old Boys’ Club™. Andre Tourigny in Arizona and Brad Larsen in Columbus have landed their first NHL head-coaching gigs, while Chris Drury takes over as the rookie GM of the New York Rangers. After winning gold with Canada at the World Championship, Gerard Gallant steps behind the Rangers’ bench. Don Granato (Buffalo) and Dominique Ducharme (Montreal) had their interim tags removed.
