The GM and competition committee meetings over the summer sent a directive to the league to crack down on indiscriminate cross-checking. That doesn’t mean it will be eliminated. Players will still be permitted to “box out” in front of the net, provided they keep their sticks in tight and use their leverage to push opposing forwards, but referees will be instructed to penalize those who crosscheck forcefully with both arms extended, particularly in front of the net where pucks are often flying. And, supposedly, the multiple cross-checks to the back will be called. We’ll see.
