Brief footchase fol­low­ing shoplift­ing

A man and woman are in cus­tody fol­low­ing a shoplift­ing in­ci­dent at a north- end re­tail store.

City po­lice re­port of­fi­cers were called shortly be­fore 8 a. m. Thurs­day in re­gards to a shoplift­ing in­ci­dent in­volv­ing two adults.

The pair, po­lice re­port, fled the lo­ca­tion as po­lice ar­rived re­sult­ing in a brief foot chase with a

65- year- old woman be­fore she was ar­rested. A 52- year- old man was ar­rested a short dis­tance away, po­lice re­port.

Both are be­ing held for a bail hear­ing with a re­quest for a three- day hold to fur­ther the in­ves­ti­ga­tion due to out­stand­ing charges from other ju­ris­dic­tions and the fact doc­u­men­ta­tion was found on one of them in­di­cat­ing their in­tent to leave the coun­try in the near fu­ture. the west side of the build­ing and no­ti­fied other re­spond­ing of­fi­cers of such. While ar­riv­ing, a sec­ond of­fi­cer ob­served a male run­ning east­bound from the school be­fore scal­ing the chain link fence into the Metro plaza park­ing lot. A third re­spond­ing of­fi­cer was in po­si­tion to quickly re­spond to the Metro plaza park­ing lot and ar­rested the sus­pect with­out in­ci­dent.

The 46- year- old Belleville res­i­dent was taken to the po­lice sta­tion where he was held for a bail hear­ing on a charge of break and en­ter with the in­tent of com­mit­ting an in­dictable of­fence therein.
