Fo­cus on im­paired drivers

QUINTE WEST — Of­fi­cers from the Quinte West de­tach­ment of the On­tario Pro­vin­cial Po­lice ( OPP) will be fo­cus­ing their ef­forts on re­duc­ing im­paired driv­ing through­out the city dur­ing the month of De­cem­ber and over the hol­i­day sea­son as part of their Fo­cus Patrol pro­gram.

“The mes­sage is sim­ple, if you choose to con­sume al­co­hol or cannabis - choose not to drive,” po­lice stated in a me­dia re­lease. Im­paired driv­ing re­mains the lead­ing cause of crim­i­nal deaths in Canada, how­ever these deaths are pre­ventable.

The Quinte West OPP have al­ready made sev­eral ar­rests for im­paired driv­ing by both al­co­hol and drugs dur­ing the month of De­cem­ber.

The mo­tor­ing pub­lic can ex­pect to see in­creased daily R. I. D. E pro­grams through­out the city of Quinte West. The pub­lic’s as­sis­tance is re­quested in keep­ing our roads safe; if you sus­pect a driver is im­paired by drug or al­co­hol call 911 to re­port it im­me­di­ately. You could be re­spon­si­ble for sav­ing a life.
