Union head should think before speaking

The Intelligencer (Belleville) - - OPINION -

I watch and read the news everyday.

At the moment, GM and the union president, Mr. Jerry Dias, are in the news everyday. I take issue with Mr. Dias’ remarks about slave labour in Mexico making cars for Canada, only because if Mr. Dias drinks coffee, or tea, does he not think that the pickers get paid very low wages? Does Mr. Dias own a computer or television? If so does he not think they are made in the far east for low wages? Does he wear clothes that are made in Canada only? I doubt that. Most clothing comes from Pakistan or India or other foreign countries.

I challenge you to do some investigative journalism on this matter as well as other matters such as the environmentalist David Suzuki. I believe he uses planes to travel ( big polluters). He wears leather shoes ( animals are killed for leather). The plastic for his shirt buttons come from oil.

I know maybe you think I am crazy, but if you really listen to all the claims some so- called big shots make, and investigate, you may find that there is a lot of money at stake.

I once ran a factory that a union came into and the leadership told me flat out that they were only interested in getting their monthly cheque and if they did I would not see them on any regular basis. Can you expose some of the corruption? John Dallas Belleville
