The Intelligencer (Belleville)
PE County hears from public about TMP for Picton
The County of Prince Edward received feedback on the preliminary findings and alternative solutions for the Transportation Master Plan (TMP) amendment for Picton on April 3.
The second Public Consultation Centre (PCC) for this study was held at the Prince Edward Community Centre in Picton. The PCC followed a drop-in format with members of the study team on hand to discuss the study and answer any questions.
The study team received a variety of both written and verbal comments. Some of the common points included:
Several attendees said they supported the idea of a by-pass route for freight traffic around the Picton settlement area.
The project team heard attendees express their concerns about
how new development would be integrated into the existing road network.
Some attendees stated that they observed a lack of parking downtown in the summer months. They noted that street parking in Picton is starting to spill beyond the downtown core.
The municipality will continue to accept feedback on this material until Friday, May 3. Send your responses to Jeff Shortt, Project Manager, at jshortt@ pecounty.on.ca.
The municipality completed a County-wide TMP in 2021 and is undertaking an amendment of the TMP for the Picton Settlement Area. The amendment is required due to a higher level of growth projected within the study area, beyond what was assumed as part of the 2021 TMP.
The TMP amendment will identify and assess the short and long-term transportation infrastructure deficiencies and needs within the Picton Settlement Area. The TMP will also identify improvements to the multi-modal transportation network in order to address existing and future travel demands.
The project team will use the public input as well as other research to evaluate the alternatives and recommend a set of transportation solutions. Those recommendations will be presented at a third PCC in late spring or early summer this year. Visit the County website to learn more about this study.
To join the project contact list and receive notices and information, or to provide comments at any time during the process, please contact Mr. Shortt at 613-476-2148 extension 1007 or email jshortt@pecounty.on.ca.
