G arth Nichols is one of the newest additions to the teaching ranks at Bayview Glen. He brings with him 15 years of teaching experience and a love of educating that was encouraged by those that taught him.

“I’ve known from an early age that I wanted to be an educator,” he says. “I think it began with having great teachers throughout my education. Seeing their joy and excitement of sharing with others and helping others grow was inspiring, and continues to inspire me.”

His daily interactions with the students cover a broad range of areas, with a strong understanding of pretty much every aspect of teaching.

“My day entails building connections between, and best practices for what we teach (curriculum), how we teach (pedagogy), and who we teach (getting to know our students as learners and as the whole child), and infusing these connections with relevant educational technologies.”

Educating children, he says, is not only about preparing them for the future. Focus also needs to be on making them ready to handle the challenges of today. “Education must be about building resilience, character and growth mindset to allow our students to take on challenges, take on safe risks and foster curiosity within themselves.”
