We matched the season’s top pink wine with on-trend rosy lips for the woman who loves to entertain

The Kit - - THEKITCA - Veronica Saroli

The crisp pink wine known and loved as rosé has won the world over by occupying the middle ground between red and white vino and being the drink of choice for patio season. The appeal is only growing, explains Shari Fanson, a consultant for the Liquor Control Board of Ontario, who has noticed gentlemen coming in for “brosé.” A rosé by any other name will smell as sweet, indeed. Here, Fanson breaks down three rosé styles, which we paired with runway- inspired lip colours to wear while drinking them. — Fanson’s favourite sparkling rosé reminds her of a rich cherry pie; the bubbles bring out raspberry and rhubarb flavours. Cuvée Catharine is made in the traditional method, meaning it has the creamy brioche characteristic from autolysis, the breaking down of yeast cells during the second phase of fermentation in the bottle, something that distinguishes finer wines. CUVÉE CATHARINE ROSÉ BRUT VQA, $30, WHERE LIQUOR IS SOLD “When you see something that’s a brighter hue, you can assume that it’s probably going to be riper, with fruit characteristics,” Fanson says. “It will be a little bit fuller in weight as well because it required a little more grape skin contact to create that colour.” Tasting notes for these wines run the gamut from strawberry and raspberry to blackberry, blackcurrant and even tomato leaf. They pair well with richer foods, like a burger or brisket. KJAER WEIS LIP TINT IN SWEETNESS, $ 67, THEDETOXMARKET. CA. MALIVOIRE LADYBUG ROSÉ, $17, WHERE LIQUOR IS SOLD Salmon pink wines generally come from Provence and provide watermelon and rose petal aromas. “They’re softer, a little more elegant and lighter,” Fanson explains. She recommends pairing them with light bites—but has one exception: fried chicken. MUD COSMETICS LIPSTICK IN SANDY BEACH, $ 19, SEARS.CA.
