Free youth camp this weekend
Happy Valley-Goose Bay Crime Prevention Committee hosts annual camp
The Happy Valley-Goose Bay Crime Prevention Committee is hosting a free camp for a dozen youth aged 11-13 this weekend, Sept. 7-9.
The committee started offering the camp several years ago to give youth an opportunity to form positive relationships with their peers.
Campers will participate in fun activities including everything from canoeing to campfires says RCMP Const. Chris Attewell, who serves on the Crime Prevention Committee.
The camp takes place at the Labrador Christian Youth Camp.
Transportation will be provided.
“We hope to have youth from all different backgrounds and we want to build a bond .... a common link, between them,” Attewell told The Labradorian.
Bringing youth together for some fun activities like taking a hike and having a wiener roast will help do that, he says.
Attewell adds a nutritionist will also visit the camp to give a presentation on healthy eating and how to prepare nutritious meals.
