Tearful Miranda praises father

Lin-Manuel Miranda broke down in tears as he returned to the lead role of his musical Hamilton on Friday. The Mary Poppins Returns star was overwhelmed as he brought his father on stage for the opening night of the hit show at the Luis A. Ferre Performing Arts Center in Puerto Rico. “No one moved more mountains than him,” he told the delighted crowd of his father Luis, who is running the production, during the curtain call. Miranda reprised his role of Alexander Hamilton for the special production in Puerto Rico for the first time since leaving the original Broadway cast in 2016, but at a press conference backstage following the soldout performance he said “bringing my father out on stage tonight” was the moment he “savoured the most”. The opening night was also a star-studded one, with Jimmy Fallon, Shonda Rhimes and Leslie Odom Jr., who won a Tony Award for his role in the Broadway production of the musical, in the audience.
