Edson Town Council updates

Purchasing Policy. Council has approved a new Purchasing Policy for the Town. The policy is intended to enhance the standards of accountability and practice when dealing with public funds, and to establish procedures which will ensure competitive, expedient, and cost effective procurement on the part of the Town. Some items in the policy include guidelines for obtaining RFP’s/ Quotes, local preference at certain price ranges, and changes to signing authorities.
Management and Out of Scope Sick Leave Policy. The updated Management and Out of Scope Sick Leave Policy was adopted by Council. Changes were made to bring it in line with the requirements of Service Canada.
MDP Implementation Tasks Policy. Council has approved a new policy to deal with the tasks set out in the recently revised Municipal Development Plan. The policy outlines the tasks and gives them a priority ranking.
Streetscape Beautification Grant. Council has rescinded the Highway Beautification Policy, adopted in July of 2005, and replaced it with a new grant program which encompasses 2nd and 4th Avenues and the downtown core (including portions of 3rd Avenue). Council has committed up to $50,000 per year towards the grants.
Proclamation and Flag Policies. New proclamation and flag policies have been adopted by Council to help streamline having proclamations approved and to formalize the Town’s flag procedures.
Veterans Voices Flags of Remembrance. Council has approved the 2017 Veterans Voices Flags of Remembrance Program to run this fall. The 128 Canadian flags will once again border Centennial Park.
Tax Sale Reserve Bids. Reserve bids have been set for the four properties still set for tax sale on January 26, 2017 in Council Chambers.
Advertisement Benches RFP. Council has awarded the bid for the Town’s Advertisement Bench program to Royal Exposure. There were two Request for Proposals submitted and, based on the criteria outlined in the RFP, Royal Exposure was scored higher.
