HRH Senior High plays underway

-

The second high school semester is now rolling along, and with that the Holy Redeemer Drama Department has begun rehearsing for their annual senior high one-act plays.

As per tradition, the Drama Program will produce two high school one-acts that will be directed by grade 12 students. This year the shows are entitled Double Diners, directed by Emma Laurin, and Wake-Up Call, directed by Sydney Fogarty.

“Both Emma and Sydney are longtime members of the HRH Drama Department,” says Drama Teacher Peter Taylor. “These two young ladies have worked extremely hard on all their previous plays I look forward to seeing what they come up with these two hilarious productions.”

Double Diners (from a collection of The Two of Us) by Michael Frayn, is a British farce that sees a dinner party hosted by Stephen (grade 11 student Quinn Larder) and Jo (grade 12 student Maddy Kinzie) go horribly wrong. “It’s such a fast moving, dynamic play,” says Laurin. “As soon as I read it, I knew it was the perfect play to showcase.” The backstage crew will see a number of stage veterans combined with newcomers to the world of the crew: Stage Manager David Olchowy, Assistant Stage Managers Mattie Ferguson, Jake Francis and Alyna Miller, and Sound Technician Mackenzie Simmons.

Wake-Up Call by Stephen Gregg is also a comedy that sees Jim (grade 12 student Ethan Handford) keep waking up from a series of dreams, however he has trouble distinguishing reality from fantasy. “I’m so excited to work with this very dynamic team of actors and crew,” says Fogarty who is taking part in her recordtying twelfth production at HRH. “This group is incredibly fun, and I can’t wait for the audience to see them create this amazing show.” Rounding out the rest of the cast is Samantha Darr-Desrosiers, Rena Fakhreddine, Austin Frazer, Kaitlyn Krebs, Ashlynn Martin, and Dakota Morton. The crew will be Stage Manager Ethan Tobin, Assistant Stage Managers Kiley Bischke and Alaina Furegati, and Sound Technician Erin Rogers.

Both plays will be preparing to showcase at Holy Redeemer’s 14th Annual Dessert Theatre on April 7th and 8th. Tickets will go on sale in early March. In addition, plays will be competing in the Zone 2 West Drama Festival in Spruce Grove in late April.

“Both shows have so much potential,” says Taylor. “And I know with these two directors leading the charge combined with the excellent cast and crew, we are confident that our audiences will be in for a real treat this April.”
