Feb. 21 meeting

Redistricting Bylaws. Council gave first reading to Bylaw No. 2190 to redistrict land at 4840 and 4834 and 5th Avenue from R1-B (single Family Residential) to R-3 (Medium Density Multi-Family Residential). Originally these lots were purchased by the Town of Edson and Yellowhead County for the purpose of future expansion of the Fire Hall. It has since been determined that this type of development is no longer needed. The County has been repaid for their portion of the purchase cost and residences on that land have been demolished. Administration has recommended the properties be sold, and that these sites would be better suited for multifamily residential use. A Public Hearing on the redistricting will be held March 21st at 7:30pm in Council Chambers.

Council has also given first reading to Bylaw No. 2193 to redistrict land north of 5A Avenue in Glenwood from R1-B (Single Family Residential to R-MHS (Mobile Home Subdivision). A developer has approached the Town to construct a 10 lot Mobile Home Subdivision at 5A Avenue and 70th Street. A Public Hearing will be held March 21st, 2017 at 7:30pm in Council Chambers.

Inter-municipal Assessment Review Board. First reading was given to Bylaw No. 2192 to establish an Inter-municipal Assessment Review Board. This would be a board to hear assessment appeals in more than one municipality and/or county. The Town of Edson will be joining the established board that includes Hinton, Grande Cache and Jasper.

Restrictive Covenants. Council has approved the removal of the Restrictive Covenants on certain lots in Hillendale Phase II. Those include rules on garages and other architectural controls. It’s hoped by removing those restrictions on certain lots it may make those builds more affordable for developers. There would still be certain restrictions that would be maintained through the development permit process.

Revised Capital Budget. To assist in the auditing process, a revised capital budget for 2016 has been approved highlighting the original project budgets and any changes that were approved over the course of the year.

Mar. 7 meeting

Road Closure. Council gave second and third reading to Bylaw No. 2184 for the closure of a portion of roadway in Lions Park. No objections were presented to the closure and the bylaw was sent to the Minister of Transportation for approval, which has now been received. Administration will now forward the bylaw to Alberta Registries for the road closure to be registered and a new title drawn up. Community Peace Officer. Council has appointed Amir Jawad as a Community Peace Officer/Bylaw Officer for the Town of Edson. Mr. Jawad was hired as a Temporary Community Peace Officer to fill a vacant position due to extended leave of another officer.
