Hodge Podge Pushing on

- by June McInnes

Another Sunday dinner ready to serve, a kick back day to regroup and take stock.

It’s a wet and windy day here at the moment and I can’t really get out in the garden but I don’t mind today.

I can do other inside things like painting kick plates for the kitchen or whip up some soft furnishings for the kitchen and lounge. I’m going to make new cushions for the lounge and some translucent drapes for privacy, but still let in the light. I’m going to embroider some words on some fabric. Words like home, love and hugs, I did it once before and it looked good.

I like making things it’s not just the challenge it’s the end result as well, making something from scratch. So that’s why I say pushing on, pushing to get the small snagging jobs done and then list this place.

The rain has now stopped and I’m staring at the garden in pale weak sunlight. I still have no interest on gardening today, I’m going to digest a late lunch then think about supper for the family. We watch a film together in the evening, which I enjoy, the being togetherness of it, laughing at the comedy’s or jumping at horror films, sharing that connection. Eating supper all together, it’s a nice feeling. I look at our children sometimes and wonder just where all of the time has gone, they’ve grown so big, so fast and I feel so blessed to have been able to do this, to have been on this journey.

Watching them laughing or talking. They are good kids, they help us lots, they work hard, don’t do drugs and aren’t vandals or delinquents. Hugs are freely given and love unconditional, yes, we are lucky.

I’m looking forward to pastures new, to packing up and shoving off, to finding somewhere new to us and finally putting down roots. It’s true we’ve travelled far and wide, seen things, done things that most people haven’t. You could even say we were rounded. I’ve enjoyed it, we all did. And now we’re all ready to leave this house and move on.

I’ve started binning stuff like I said I would and the kids likewise, it’s pointless dragging a whole load of stuff around with you everywhere. Some boxes are packed already and as soon as I get some more large plastic storage boxes, I will pack more.

I enjoy the end game of dressing the house, taking photos, arranging things, making it look the best possible. The hardest part of this stage is keeping tidy so that if you get a call from a realtor then it’s not too hard to be ready. We keep the photos handy so we can make sure it’s just like that every showing, a good reference point and it makes it easier for the kids to help.

Other than that, it’s clean, clean and clean again. Let’s hope it goes fast.

Watch this space for details….
