Rotary Club of Whitecourt donates $100,000 to enhancements at Whitecourt’s Rotary Park
The Town of Whitecourt is proud to announce that the Rotary Club of Whitecourt has donated $100,000 towards future enhancements at Rotary Park.
“The Rotary Club of Whitecourt is excited to continue its partnership with the Town of Whitecourt by presenting a donation of $100,000 to the next phase of the pride of our community, Rotary Park,” stated Club President Nevis Prufer. “Rotary Park exists because of past, present, and future Rotarians, and the support of the community at large.”
Rotary Park, the gem of our community which happens to hold their namesake, was developed cooperatively and involved transforming a former gravel pit into one of the most popular family destinations in the province. Rotary Park continues to be a summer favourite for not only residents, but also people from across our region and province. Interest in the Park grows each year, and the municipality has noted an increase in the number of inquiries from tourists visiting the area specifically to see the Park.
“Whitecourt and the Rotary Club have a shared vision of creating superior lifestyle opportunities for people of all ages,” added Whitecourt Mayor Maryann Chichak. “Over the years, we have worked closely in our pursuit to develop and enhance recreational and leisure opportunities as a way to build the community and grow our local economy. This generous contribution to Rotary Park will be used towards one of the projects identified in the newly adopted Sportsfield Master Plan.”
The Rotary Club of Whitecourt sponsors numerous activities at various facilities that families can enjoy for free, including family skating at the Scott Safety Centre, family swimming at the Allan & Jean Millar Centre, and family range day at the Whitecourt Golf & Country Club. The Club also proudly sponsors the Rotary Totally “Unplugged” Program (summer day camp for ages 6-12), Totally Unplugged 2.0 (adventure camp for teens), Seniors’Week activities, and the Family Day BBQ that are all hosted by the Town of Whitecourt. In addition, the Club has contributed to enhancements at the Allan & Jean Millar Centre (multi-use recreation facility) and Eastlink Park (local ski/board hill).
The President of the Rotary Club of Whitecourt added “The Club relies on the funds raised from the annual Lobsterfest to support projects such as enhancements at Rotary Park. This year’s event will be held May 5 at St. Joseph Hall. Those interested in sponsoring, donating to, and supporting the event can call Jenn Hendrickson at 780-779-8698.”
