Jasper RCMP arrest local resident recently sentenced to conditional sentence order
On February 23, 2018 a Jasper resident charged with a drug trafficking offence appeared at the Edmonton Queen’s Bench Court for sentencing purposes.
John Jim KONTOS entered a guilty plea to possessing a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and was sentenced to a term of imprisonment of two years less a day to be served in the community.
On February 27, 2018, as part of a targeted crime reduction strategy, Jasper RCMP officers conducted a condition check at KONTOS’ residence and formed grounds to believe that KONTOS was not complying with his conditional sentence order.
On March 6th, 2018 Jasper RCMP officers attended KONTOS’ residence and arrested him for failing to comply with his conditional sentence order. He has since been released from custody and is set to appear in Hinton Court of Queen’s Bench on April 9th, 2018.
The “K” Division Crime Reduction Strategy is a targeted, evidence based approach to policing. This model enables police to identify repeat offenders, conduct targeted enforcement initiatives and to address the root cause of a crime. Jasper RCMP officers actively participate to this dynamic, provincially coordinated crime reduction program and will continue to ensure that repeat offenders are brought before the court to be held accountable.
