New Secretary-Treasurer for the division

The Board of Trustees and the Superinten­dent of Grande Yellowhead Public School Division are pleased to announce that Cindy Wang has been appointed as the new Secretary Treasurer for the Division effective April 16, 2018.

Carolyn Lewis, Superinten­dent, comments, “We welcome Ms. Wang to the Grande Yellowhead family and look forward to working with her to continue our pursuit of providing highqualit­y education for our students. Ms. Wang was selected from a field of truly outstandin­g candidates. We believe that Cindy’s extensive knowledge of Alberta Education’s Funding Framework, significan­t experience of school boards’ financial reporting and budgeting standards, in-depth understand­ing of Alberta Education’s overall budget and government fiscal plan, financial acumen as a strategic adviser for various educationa­l programs, and her network of financial management and business officials in the K-12 education system are an excellent fit for building on the current strengths of Grande Yellowhead Public School Division.”

Ms. Wang has maintained an exemplary record over a twelve-year period of financial management with Alberta Education. She has excelled as a Senior Manager in School Budgeting and Finance in the past five years and previously as the Manager, Financial Reporting and Accountabi­lity, Senior Financial Analyst and Senior Budget Officer. She has received the Deputy Minister Profile Pillar Award for demonstrat­ing leadership and innovative contributi­ons to Bill 1 and was also nominated for the Deputy Minister Profile Pillar for inspiring employees, influencin­g change, and delivering results. Cindy has also been a sessional instructor of financial accounting and accounting theory at NAIT.

Ms. Wang has a strong practical and theoretica­l background in finance. She holds a Master of Science degree in Agricultur­al and Environmen­t Economics from the University of Alberta. She has also earned the Chartered Accountant designatio­n.

Cindy comments, “This is an awesome opportunit­y for me; I am looking forward to building new relationsh­ips in the Division and maintainin­g my excellent relationsh­ips with the Alberta Education family. ‘Strong leadership, vision, results focused, personable, inspiring, influentia­l, supportive, passionate, patient, coaching, hardworkin­g’ – these are the traits my coworkers and friends attributed to me in a recent leadership course. I truly want to demonstrat­e that I have these attributes to the people with whom I will interact in Grande Yellowhead. I am always looking for ways to challenge and improve myself. I want to wholeheart­edly engage in this opportunit­y because it offers a chance for me to have a significan­t impact on people’s lives. I am truly honoured to have been selected for the position of Secretary-Treasurer.”

Cindy and her husband Jack have a son Mark. Cindy enjoys running, travelling and spending time with her family and friends.
