Hodge Podge Hot weather woes

- by June McInnes June McInnes

I do love the nicer weather but, it does put me on a shorter fuse than normal I’m usually pretty patient, so my family tells me, until it gets hot. By 26 degrees I’m no one’s friend and just want to be left alone to have four showers a day and be quiet. By 29 I get stomach cramps and want to throw up. Not very nice but that’s how it goes for me, year after year. Thank goodness my husband understands, and he backs off as the mercury rises. I think our pets feel it too and I have indeed spent many a while sharing the vinyl with the dog because it’s cooler down there, neither of us wanting to move too far. Just roll over to find a cool spot then spread out and soak up the cold but before it starts to heat up. Both our dogs and cats hate the super hot days, I really feel for them permanently zipped into a fur suit pyjamas outfit, whatever the weather. They get a bit grumpy too and who can blame them.

We try to keep them hydrated as much as possible and I do make them frozen snacks.

They are not tethered outside so that also helps. If you take your dog with you to the store and leave them in the car you are putting their lives at risk, don’t do it. Every year you hear about dogs being left in a car. The windows closed. They can’t help themselves and open a window when it gets too hot, they die. So please, don’t do it.

The mosquitos have already found both me and members of my family absolutely delicious this year, they have been chowing down on us all. Every time I go out another crop of bite spots appears and I get covered in hives. I read on the Internet that there’s a different type of mosquito that comes with its own infection, I hope that’s not true because ten to one, they’ll seek me out and I’ll look like a big ball of puss on legs, itching and scratching my way about. My nightstand is full of products to keep bugs off. Shame they don’t work very well.

My last moan today comes from the amount of litter you see strewn around the roads, I know there’s been another clear up this year but, when you get off the beaten track a bit and down a nice country dirt road. It’s very sad to see the litter in the ditches. Why would anyone want to do that? Why litter when you don’t have to, it only takes a moment to put it where you should. And just think of all that recycling money your throwing away with your pop cans. Take your litter home.

There, rant over.

As the saying goes, “it just takes a minute to bag it and bin it.”
