Edson’s AUMA Resolution
Members of the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association (AUMA) have approved a resolution brought forward by Edson Town Council. The motion had 90.6% support and urges the Alberta Government to review their policy dealing with who pays for highway improvements deemed to be required when new developments are considered. The AUMA resolution asks the Provincial Government to produce a policy that is more equitable to all municipalities, taking into consideration the size of the municipality, as well as the proximity to a highway.
Edson Mayor Kevin Zahara says the current policy is having a negative impact on economic opportunities in our community. “We need a more equitable solution to ensure development can continue to occur along the highway corridor without these additional costs to developers and small rural municipalities.”
Edson Council passed a motion to develop this AUMA resolution at their March 20, 2018 meeting.
