White­court Town Coun­cil has ap­proved Com­mu­nity Stan­dards By­law 1475-1 which in­cludes reg­u­la­tions to man­age recre­ational use of cannabis in our com­mu­nity. The posses­sion, sale and con­sump­tion of cannabis will be le­gal­ized by the Fed­eral Gov­ern­ment on Oc­to­ber 17, 2018. By­law 1475-1 will come into ef­fect that day, and bans the recre­ational use of cannabis in all pub­lic places within the Town of White­court, thereby lim­it­ing use to res­i­dences and pri­vate prop­erty. The Town of White­court ap­pre­ci­ates all of those that shared their feed­back on the by­law at the pub­lic open house and through the on­line sur­vey con­ducted last month. In­for­ma­tion on the by­law will be shared through our web­site, in the com­mu­nity, and on so­cial me­dia ac­counts through­out the next sev­eral months.

White­court has en­tered into a fa­cil­ity use agree­ment with Starks Sports So­ci­ety, own­ers of the White­court Wolver­ines Ju­nior A Hockey Club, for the 2018/2019. An­other use agree­ment will be ne­go­ti­ated in mid-2019 once de­tails on the pro­posed fa­cil­ity ex­ten­sion to the Scott Safety Cen­tre is fi­nal­ized.

White­court has ap­proved a new fa­cil­ity use agree­ment with the White­court Gym­nas­tics Club. The new agree­ment will al­low the Club to re-es­tab­lish its pro­gram and staffing as it works to re­cover from im­pacts to their op­er­a­tions ex­pe­ri­enced from a flood at the fa­cil­ity in 2017.

Coun­cil en­dorsed and pro­vided au­tho­riza­tion for Ad­min­is­tra­tion to sign a Mem­o­ran­dum of Un­der­stand­ing and a Small Cell Li­cense Agree­ment with TELUS that al­lows TELUS and the mu­nic­i­pal­ity to pur­sue dis­cus­sions re­gard­ing the up­grade of TELUS’ in­fra­struc­ture within White­court.

A Spe­cial Meet­ing of Coun­cil has been sched­uled for De­cem­ber 12, 2018 at 5 p.m. to re­view the 2019 Bud­get.
