Holiday dog treats
June McInnes
The McLeod River Post
I bake treats for our dogs, I like to know what it is they are getting in their food, at Christmas I like to make them something especially good I know they will enjoy, we wrap them up with a toy for them and place it under the tree, soppy I know but that’s how we are, so if you feel the same, why not make these for your dog and let them feel the love.
3 cups of wholemeal flour 1 grated apple
2 tablespoons of peanut butter 1 teaspoon of cinnamon 1tablespoon of vanilla essence 1 tablespoon of dried parsley 2 tablespoons of honey Enough water to make a dough Pre heat oven to 350 degrees, dust a cookie sheet with some flour. Method
Place all above ingredients except the water into a medium sized bowl, mix together and then use some of the water to make the dough.
Roll it out and dust with some flour, use your cookie cutter and stamp out the shapes, place them on your cookie sheet, poke holes in them to let the air out produced whilst baking. Cook in the oven until they are slightly brown, take out and let cool on a wire rack.
They are good treats for your dog, healthy and you know what’s in them.
After all, why forget pongo this Christmas?
Also, if a toddler should get hold of one of these it’s not so bad, as they are people safe, unless your child is under one year of age because they can’t have honey until then, if you’re worried about that, don’t put the honey in the mix.
