We are experiencing technical difficulties

- by June McInnes June McInnes

Recently and for what seemed like no apparent reason my phone and other electronic devices all decided to go into a technical meltdown, neither would communicate with each other or the outside world, I was incommunicado. It was so frustrating to say the least.

Technology is great if it works, you can sit in your front room or bedroom and dash off an e-mail, or face time your friend from anywhere right to your arm chair. You can play games or read a book, marvellous, if it works. This weekend was a wrestling match and I lost. What started as a slow burn of a gradual decline of faculties ended up with my devices being nothing more than lit paper weights, my family says I am normally a patient person, but this, this drove me absolutely crazy. I was prompted to put in my passwords, nope, it wouldn’t accept it. I tried a different one, I looked up my little black book with all my failsafe passwords in, nope, not having any of that either.

I was completely stuck, now if you know me, I’m not one of those people who can’t live without my phone, I’m not always on it and I certainly don’t look at it much when I’m not working. It’s a tool, a work thing, nothing more. But when it breaks down and you can’t work or contact your family or friends its a royal pain in the tush.

Enter our teenage son, he could see I was drowning in a sea of technical difficulties and wasn’t making any headway, he threw me a line, reeled me in and started working on the problems. It took a while and much head shaking, but he fixed it, I’m proud he’s so smart, I was ready to frisbee all of it into they yard and back over them with the truck.

Within an hour he’d saved my photos and put them on a pen drive, he’d cleared out all the techno lint that accumulates in your machine and we were ready to decide if we were going for a reset. We did, its behaving but is being watched for any sign of weirdness, same goes for everything else.

So, thanks to Simon I have rejoined the ranks of the connected and I’m ready to work again, I can take photos if I need them and play my favourite silly games if I feel like it.

Bliss.

I’ll be back taking pictures and writing my articles again thanks to him. Thank goodness for a techno minded son.

Like I said before, technology is great - when it works.

Here’s hoping if you have any techno issues they can be sorted quickly too.
