BC NDP nominates more star candidates in Surrey and across BC

The BC NDP nominated nine star candidates in five days this past week, including former MP Jinny Sims in Surrey-Panorama, former RCMP Inspector Garry Begg in Surrey-Guildford and City Councillor Tarik Sayeed in Penticton. “I am very proud to stand with these stellar candidates and take on Christy Clark and her record in the election next year,” said BC NDP leader John Horgan. “We have been building a powerful team that reflects the people of BC and who will work to make life better for people.” Begg, a retired RCMP District Commander for Surrey, was acclaimed as the BC NDP candidate in Surrey-Guildford Wednesday night. He pledged to be a strong voice for community safety and gang prevention on the BC NDP team. Sims was acclaimed Monday evening in Surrey-Panorama. An outspoken advocate for public education, she said one on her top priorities will be to replace portables with real classrooms in Surrey. Sayeed won a contested nomination in Penticton on Saturday. He said he will fight to generate more good-paying jobs in his community and make life more affordable for families. Other candidates nominated in the past five days include:

•Veteran MLAs Raj Chouhan (Burnaby-Edmonds) and Scott Fraser (Mid Island-Pacific Rim),

•Port Moody Councillor Rick Glumac (Port MoodyCoquitlam),

•Parent activist Morgane Oger (Vancouver-False Creek), and

•School Trustee Lisa Beare (Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows), who topped the polls in the last municipal election. Two other star candidates were nominated in Surrey earlier this fall: Jagrup Brar in SurreyFleetwood and Ravi Kahlon in Delta North. Horgan said the BC NDP is gaining momentum as his party recruits an increasing number of star candidates. He said affordability will be a key issue in the coming provincial election. “Costs are going up and up and our health care and schools are being cut and cut. Christy Clark is looking after people at the top and everyone else is paying the price,” Horgan said.

On Nov 28, Mr. Jagrup Brar raised more than $60,000 funds for the Jin Sims election campaign at the same evening in Hyland elementry School Surrey with an half an hour.
