The OC believed that I had lied about my last three days of E.D. I did not clarify about my last visit to the M.H. I rather played the game, letting them strengthen in their belief. On reporting at duty, Flight Lieutenant Gohar Javed, who was SATCO at the time, asked me to provide the E.D. letters issued by the hospitals. I told him that they were in my room and I would hand them over the next day. When asked the next day, I told them of forgetting that the papers were in my home at Islamabad. I even asked for leave of one day to get them back from Islamabad. They ignored my request without asking any further questions. The OC thought that he had a monkey with his hands in the cookie jar. He immediatel­y ordered to record a Summary of Evidence against me. Base Routine Orders (BROs) published Flight Lieutenant Gohar Javed as the summary recording officer. A signal about the summary was also sent to the Air Force Base Peshawar and the Legal Directorat­e. I was under the constant legal advice of Flying Officer Danish, a lawyer and my favorite junior at Lower Topa from our cadetship days. He then served the Legal Directorat­e of the Air Force. He assured me ‘No harm’ under the prevailing evidence. On the date of recording the summary, I was produced in front of Flight Lieutenant Gohar Javed, the summary recording officer. For me, it was a scene of a comedy movie. My good friends worried about my career. I was charged with ‘Absent without Official Leave’ (AWOL) for three days and telling lies about the E.D. report. If proven guilty, those charges could remove me from service. Flying Officer Bangash, the Base Adjutant, confirmed checking my medical record at the Air Force Hospital, Chaklala and the C.M.H.
