17th Muslim Youth Centre Fundraiser Dinner
The Muslim Youth Centre (MYC) held its 17th Annual Fundraising Dinner on October 14, 2017 at Crystal Banquet Hall. It was a wonderful evening for the adults, youth and children. Br. Kareem Husain started the evening with a warm welcome. The beautiful Quran recitation and translation were done by Br. Mostafa Hedayat. The MC was Br. Ahmed Salih. The children had fun taking part in the knowledge game and winning Islamic gifts. Furthermore, a Video Presentation showcased the diverse activities in the Centre; from Islamic Studies to Food Festivals to Kids Fun Day to International Bazaars to Self Defense Classes. A highlight of the evening was the Self Defense Demonstration led by Certified Black Belt Instructors Br. Adam Ishmail and Sr. Alia Ishmail. The talented Youth practiced immensely to put on a great show for their parents and peers. The demonstration showed great techniques of taekwondo from breaking boards to high jump kicks. Sheikh Riad Ouarzazi gave a wonderful speech on inspiring and motivating them to be good to their parents and excellent citizens in our community. He led the discussion into the fundraising portion. The MYC raised over 30,000. Honorable Mr. Harry Bains, MLA; Honourable Ms. Rachna Singh, MLA; and Honourable Mr. Sukh Dhaliwal, MP gave heartfelt speeches thanking MYC for their hard work, commitment to the community and empowering the Youth. The Muslim Youth Centre recognized many people in our community who have dedicated their time, knowledge and finances to the well-being of our community. These individuals primary objective is to support and protect the future generations – our precious Youth. Br. Kareem presented them with a Letter of Appreciation. The enjoyable evening was completed with the free IPAD giveaway. Through a Price is Right style game Sister Rawia Ali won the IPAD! Congratulations to her and her family. The evening was concluded by a lively auction done by Dr. Irfan Sheikh. Thank you to all the individuals who participated in the auction and took home the beautiful items. Also, thank you to all the vendors, sponsors, donors, and the audience who made the event a great success. The Muslim Youth Centre is proud to have wonderful individuals part of the Management team. These individuals include Sr. Zuleika Husain, Sr. Kaniza Ishmail, Sr. Salma Husain, Sr. Rabia Waraich, Sr. Hind Rafaoui, Sr. Alia Ishmail, Sr. Sabana Nisha, Br. Kareem Husain, Br. Ali Husain, Br. Faheeb Ishmail, Br. Adam Ishmail, Br. Abderrazzak Elbakezzi, Br. Ahmed Salih, Br. Dawood Bathurst, Br. Mohammed Shaheem and Dr. Irfan Sheikh. The Late Br. Asgar Husain, founder of the MYC, had a vision to help and support the Youth by providing educational programs and activities so they can become great leaders of tomorrow.
