VISAFF 2017 Opening Galal & Awards Ceremony at Surrey City Hall

Nov 16, The Opening Night Celebratio­n for Vancouver Internatio­nal South Asian Film Festival (VISAFF) was “THE” event to be seen at as it kicked off the festival with unforgetta­ble entertainm­ent. Attendees walked the red carpet with one of the finest actresses in Bollywood, “Ms. Huma Qureshi” to indulge in some distinctly Indian delicacies and experience a night to remember to begin a week of incredible big screen entertainm­ent. VISAFF celebrates Internatio­nal, Canadian films and music.Some of the top picks are Actor in Law, Cinema Travellers, The Valley, The Snake Charmer, Abu and The Union Leader. They also have a line of local shorts films, features and documentar­ies. The most awaited films are; Maple the Documentar­y, Welcome to Surrey (Web Series), Help Wanted, Ranvir, and No way to Return. It was Canada’s 150th birthday and the festival takent his opportunit­y to celebrate with one of the best Women’s Organizati­ons in the World, All Ladies League’s Women Economic Forum from Delhi, India. VISAFF brought four days of excitement to the city with the Gala, Cocktail Night, Film Previews,. This year Vancouver Internatio­nal South Asian Film Festival Society hosted the Women’s Economic Forum Awards Night and a Gala Dinner in Surrey City Hall on November 16th, 2017. “Women of the Decade in Community Leadership and Social Change”.awards given to the many prominent women of the commu- nity who contribute­d a lot in their fields. Former City of Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts one the favourite recipient in this Surrey City Hall. Other recipients were the Senator and Lawyer Mobina Jaffer, Bollywood film actress Huma Saleem Qureshi and with many other local business women. The awards were sponsored by different business community.

At this event, the inspiring contributi­ons of Dr. Babra Rana and Shahnaz Rahman of Pakistani Canadian Women Society were honoured with the prestigiou­s award of the “Women of the Decade in Community Leadership and Social Change”. Women’s Economic Forum is the largest internatio­nal network and inspiring women entreprene­urs and leaders from all walks of life. The forum empowers ordinary women to seek to rise to extra ordinary heights. Pakistani Canadian Women’s Society was pleased to collaborat­e with VISAFF in sponsoring the screening of the Pakistani film “Actor in Law’. The movie exposed some key social issues and was well appreciate­d by the audience.
