Vancouver-Mount Pleasant BC’s New Democrats I want to take this moment to thank you for supporting our work this year to make BC more affordable and accessible for everyone – especially children and their families. Here are just some of the changes British Columbians were told for years were not possible, but that our team delivered in less than six months, even as the BC Liberals did everything they could to stop us: 1.Real access to education for people who need it. We eliminated tuition for Adult Basic Education and English Language Learning programs. And made post-secondary learning free for youth in care. 2.More child care spaces across BC. We created 3,800 new child care spots in 52 communities from Vancouver to Prince George. 3.Safer schools for our kids. We moved quickly to fund more seismic upgrades in schools. 4.Homes and rental protections. We invested in 2000 homes for the homeless, and closed loopholes so renters are no longer vulnerable to unfair rent increases. 5.Helping people get good jobs. We funded 2,000 new trades training spots at post-secondary institutions in BC. 6.Democracy that works for people, not corporations. We banned big money from politics, and now we’re giving you the power to modernize our electoral system. … and, with your support in 2018, I mean it when I say we are just getting started. The BC Liberals are going to keep attempting to derail us, but if we keep working together, so much more can be achieved.
