PCWA welomes Senator Hon. Salma A.Jan
Pakistani Canadian Women’s Society recently welcomed special guest Honorable Senator Salma Ataullahjan to a gathering that included an informal style interview segment and a chance for attendees to engage with the Senator following the discussion. The discourse included topics such as political reforms, bridging the differences between Muslim and mainstream perspectives, gender wage inequality issues, immigration, challenges facing the community and the progress that has been made thus far. The highlight of the evening was the Q&A sessions giving students, members of PCWS and invited guests from the community an opportunity to participate in dialogue with the Senator. The get-together was also the platform for the Senator to recognize significant efforts and contributions made by members of the PCWS since its inception by awarding pins. As a token of appreciation, the Government of Canada commissions pins for parliamentarians to award to individuals to recognize their achievements. The pin is made with the original copper that covered the roofs of he center block of Parliament Hill, a true Canadian symbol.
Recipients recognized were Rukhsana Shariq, Farzana Alam, Babra Rana and Almas Ali for truly embodying Canada 150’s theme of promoting a diverse and inclusive Canada.
