P akistan Day or National Pakistan Day also called Pakistan Resolution Day

is celebrated on 23rd March every year. The purpose of the day is to commemorat­e the Lahore Resolution passed on 23rd March 1940 and adaptation of the first constituti­on of Pakistan on 23rd March 1956 making Pakistan the world’s first Islamic republic. The day celebrates the adoption of Pakistan Resolution by the Muslim League at the Minar-e-Pakistan Lahore. The resolution called for establishi­ng an independen­t federation comprising provinces with majority Muslim located in the northeaste­rn and northweste­rn region of British controlled India. Who Passed-Presented Resolution of Pakistan? The Pakistan Resolution (also known as Lahore Resolution or Qarardad-e-Pakistan) was drafted by 25 member working committee of All India Muslim League. On the instructio­ns of working Committee, the resolution was presented by Maulvi A.K Fazlul Haq at Minto Park (Now renamed as Iqbal Park) in Lahore on 23rd March 1940 during the annual session of all India Muslim League. The resolution adopted in the same session by Muslim league membership. Today the importance of resolution is remembered in Pakistan through Minar-ePakistan structure that stands at Iqbal Park in Lahore. During the annual Muslim League session 22nd to 24th March at Lahore, Muhammad Ali Jinnah and other Founding Fathers narrated the events regarding the major difference­s between Hindus and Muslims. On 23rd March 1940, a historical Resolution passed that became the base for the formation of a new nation-state in South Asia. Quoting Lahore Resolution: “No constituti­onal plan would be workable or acceptable to the Muslims unless geographic­al contiguous units are demarcated into regions which should be so constitute­d with such territoria­l readjustme­nts as may be necessary. That the areas in which the Muslims are numericall­y in majority as in the North-Western and Eastern zones of India should be grouped to constitute independen­t states in which the constituen­t units shall be autonomous and sovereign”. The British plan to partition India into Pakistan and Hindustan announced on 3rd June 1947. Pakistan came into existence in the world on 14th August 1947, and Hindustan got independen­ce from British one day later on 15th August 1947. Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan became the first Governor General of Pakistan and Mr. Liaqat Ali Khan the first prime minister. Indian Act 1935 remained the legal framework for Pakistan till 1956. On 23rd March 1956, the state passed and enforced its own constituti­on. Independen­ce Day of Pakistan is a celebratio­n of freedom from British rule whereas the Republic day celebrates of coming into force of its constituti­on.
