There are two avenues leading to the parliament; one is through direct appointment by the Party, while the other is by nomination of candidate by the riding members’ choice. However, nomination race remains one of the toughest challenges the candidates have to face. On March 18th, Mississauga Erin Mills community spoke with one strong voice and selected Imran Mian as a Liberal party candidate believing in his ability to win the upcoming competition with other political parties on Jun 7th provincial election in Ontario. Interestingly, the nomination race had over 6500 registered members eligible to vote. However, there was a 47 percent turnout to the polling centre. Out of 2962 total votes cast, Mian got 1849 while Hifza Musa got 1113 votes. There was a lead of 736 votes as revealed by TV Canada One. Unfortunately, a long line up of potential voters couldn’t make it to the polling area for lateness reasons. Imran Mian, a Canadian of Pakistani origin came to Canada in his late teens in 1988. After completing his high school (at the Kipling collegiate Toronto), he obtained his business degree from the York University.

Profession: He is currently working as a senior executive (VP sales) with Mobile live. He has worked with Bell Canada, Samsung Canada and a few other IT companies of repute in senior roles as well.

Social skills: He is a dedicated community volunteer, a member of the campaign committee for the United Way of Peel Region. He served as the founding co-chair of the United Way of Peel Region South Asian Advisory Council.

Political work: He has been actively volunteering for the past 13 plus years for the liberal party; he volunteered as campaign manager for Justin Trudeau.

Nomination Day: “This is the victory of the community, my name was just on the ballot,” a jubilant Imran Mian said to the thunderous applause of hundreds of supporters at the polling venue. “We reached out to 7000 people, but starting tomorrow our goal is to reach out to each and every person in the riding. We are going to win this riding on June 7.” Winning liberal nomination for the Erin Mills riding by Mian sends a strong message to Doug Ford of Ontario PC Party. “Thank you Mississauga. We have delivered a very strong message to Doug Ford,” he said. Specifically, Imran Mian praised Hifza Musa and her entire team for running a great campaign. “She ran a fantastic campaign. She has a very bright future in the party and I want to make sure she stays involved and anything I can do to facilitate her involvement will be my honour. And I want to congratulate all her team for all their hard work,” he said. Mian also praised his own team of volunteers and his wife who, he said, stood by him all the way. Mian wants to take more action to enhance the level of prosperity for Erin Mills community. He is aware that with political office comes a lot of responsibility. He is result-oriented and is aggressive enough to lead at Queens Park. His best quality is his level headedness, plus his amazing sense of humour. Moreover, His logical ability to think quickly to the point is fantastic. His sincerity of purpose, determination to deliver, self reflection, open mindedness, vast experience and knowledge are among the qualities that helped him reach where he is now. Most of all, he is a good politician for he possesses a wonderful emotional IQ. He is capable of motivating others. He is famous for his fantastic leadership skills. His excellent judgment skill helps him come up with the most appropriate/well calculated answer. He has visionary goals that are reasonable and achievable. Furthermore, his ability to motivate and mobilize others is commendable. The Erin Mills community wants Mian to get elected on Jun the 7th as MPP. Since Mian is determined to fight against amateurish agenda of Doug Ford (PC party), the Erin Mills community needs him for the continuity of security of provincial benefits that are already in place. Currently people of Ontario are in receipt of additional benefits in terms of increased minimum wage, free medicines for all those who are 25 and under, mental health coverage, free education, the projected medical enhanced benefit to the 65 and over, reduction in Hospital wait time, goodies for the renters and much more.

Good news: A lot of excitement was seen on the Election Day. The community spoke with one voice; it is collective wisdom which we all must respect. The negative people have failed to cause a divide among our people. Mian has given new meaning to grass root politics. The volunteers and supporters are anxiously looking forward to working with him again soon. The community is so thrilled with his emergence for his being an outstanding community activist. He is famous for practising positive politics and is well known for using the most reliable information to make judgments in order to come up with workable solutions. There is a great deal of importance of focusing on betterment of Erin Mills community in particular and all Canadians in general. He has goals which are reasonable and achievable. If elected as MPP, he is determined to deliver as expected. Since the nomination election is over, it is about time for re-alignment of all volunteers and members under the great Leadership of Imran Mian.
