-

Ottawa, ON The Honourable Michelle Rempel, Shadow Minister for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship,

and Pierre Paul-Hus, Shadow Minister for Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, issued a statement following an emergency committee meeting calling for a study to discuss the adequacy of the Trudeau government’s response to the crisis at our borders: “Until now, the Trudeau government’s response to the massive spike in illegal border crossings has been completely inadequate, so we’re proud to have forced the govern-

ment has agreed to let the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration to do it’s job and further investigate the issue. “Canadians expect our refugee system to be safe, orderly, and compassionate. Under Prime Minister Trudeau, it has been insecure, chaotic, and uncaring. The Liberals’ only response has been to throw more money at the problem and hope it will go away. This approach has failed. It has only further entrenched the problem and normal- ized illegal border crossings while ignoring the real issue the security of our border. “We will continue to press the government for a response that goes beyond simply spending more money. Throughout the course of the upcoming committee hearings, we expect the government to present a fully costed plan that upholds the integrity of our borders and prioritizes the world’s most vulnerable who seek asylum in our country.” By: Office of Michelle Rempel
