Immigration Minister Visits in Masjid Al-Salaam Burnaby
The Honorable Immigration Minister of Immigration, Mr. Ahmed Hussen, paid a visit to the Burnaby Masjid Al-Salaam, on Aug 14, 2018. The Minister spend his time listening to the concerns of the Muslim community and pointing the key improvements he has been able to accomplish in his brief tenure which includes but is not limited to
•Cutting Spousal Processing time from 26-12 months or less while also reducing the backlog from 75,000 to 15,000 files
•Improving and continuously working on Student Visa Processing by introducing streamline programs for countries such as China, India, Phillipines and Vietnam (The Minister notes that other countries are also being reviewed and may also be able to benefit from this Program in the future though it has not been made official yet)
•Reducing the caregiver backlog from 62,000 to 12,000 files and implementing a new application processing time of 12 months.
•Increasing the amount of Immigration to Canada through various Express Entry and Provincial Programs in order to meet the continuing growing demand of the Canadian Economy The Minister also encouraged the Muslim youth to undertake more government and leadership roles in order to become an integrated part of the Canadian Society. Speaking to Abdul Bakr, who is running for Vancouver City Councilor in the upcoming elections, the Minister stressed the importance of being connected with the community and constituents in order understand their needs and addressing them in a productive manner.
