Im­mi­gra­tion Min­is­ter Vis­its in Masjid Al-Salaam Burn­aby

The Hon­or­able Im­mi­gra­tion Min­is­ter of Im­mi­gra­tion, Mr. Ahmed Hussen, paid a visit to the Burn­aby Masjid Al-Salaam, on Aug 14, 2018. The Min­is­ter spend his time lis­ten­ing to the con­cerns of the Mus­lim com­mu­nity and point­ing the key im­prove­ments he has been able to ac­com­plish in his brief ten­ure which in­cludes but is not lim­ited to

•Cut­ting Spousal Pro­cess­ing time from 26-12 months or less while also re­duc­ing the back­log from 75,000 to 15,000 files

•Im­prov­ing and con­tin­u­ously work­ing on Stu­dent Visa Pro­cess­ing by in­tro­duc­ing stream­line pro­grams for coun­tries such as China, In­dia, Phillip­ines and Viet­nam (The Min­is­ter notes that other coun­tries are also be­ing re­viewed and may also be able to ben­e­fit from this Pro­gram in the fu­ture though it has not been made of­fi­cial yet)

•Re­duc­ing the care­giver back­log from 62,000 to 12,000 files and im­ple­ment­ing a new ap­pli­ca­tion pro­cess­ing time of 12 months.

•In­creas­ing the amount of Im­mi­gra­tion to Canada through var­i­ous Ex­press En­try and Pro­vin­cial Pro­grams in or­der to meet the con­tin­u­ing grow­ing de­mand of the Cana­dian Econ­omy The Min­is­ter also en­cour­aged the Mus­lim youth to un­der­take more gov­ern­ment and lead­er­ship roles in or­der to be­come an in­te­grated part of the Cana­dian So­ci­ety. Speak­ing to Ab­dul Bakr, who is run­ning for Van­cou­ver City Coun­cilor in the up­com­ing elec­tions, the Min­is­ter stressed the im­por­tance of be­ing con­nected with the com­mu­nity and con­stituents in or­der un­der­stand their needs and ad­dress­ing them in a pro­duc­tive man­ner.
