PM re­views progress to con­vert PM House into uni­ver­sity

Prime Min­is­ter Im­ran Khan on Wed­nes­day chaired a meet­ing to mon­i­tor the progress on con­vert­ing the Prime Min­is­ter House into uni­ver­sity and di­rected to con­sti­tute a com­mit­tee, headed by the Higher Education Com­mis­sion (HEC) chair­man, to re­view the draft char­ter of the pro­posed uni­ver­sity, Ra­dio Pak­istan re­ported. The meet­ing, held in the fed­eral cap­i­tal, was at­tended by Education Min­is­ter Shafqat Mehmood, HEC Chair­man Tariq Ba­nuri and other of­fi­cials of the com­mis­sion. It also ap­proved con­sti­tu­tion of sep­a­rate com­mit­tees for eval­u­a­tion of the draft char­ter for the uni­ver­sity and se­lec­tion of its vice-chan­cel­lor. The min­is­ter con­cerned for education would head the search com­mit­tee for the se­lec­tion of vice-chan­cel­lor. The meet­ing de­cided that the HEC chair­man would head a com­mit­tee tasked with the op­er­a­tional af­fairs and de­sign of the uni­ver­sity. A con­fer­ence ti­tled ‘Emerg­ing Chal­lenges for Pak­istan and the Re­gion’ will be held at the new ed­u­ca­tional in­sti­tu­tion in De­cem­ber this year. The meet­ing also ap­proved the es­tab­lish­ment of the In­sti­tute of Ad­vanced Stud­ies in the first phase of the uni­ver­sity. Source:
