WATERVILLE/NEW GLASGOW – Stephen Anthony Lewis, 44, Kings Regional Rehabilita­tion Centre, Waterville, passed away Thursday, June 16, 2016, after a year-long battle with cancer.

Born on Oct. 21, 1971, in New Glasgow, he was a son of Keith Lewis and the late Sandra (Miller) Lewis.

In younger years, Stephen was an active member of the Summer Street Industries community from 1989-2009 and during this time was part of the HCRS Pictou County family. In 2009, he embraced the opportunit­y to relocate to Kings Regional Rehabilita­tion Centre, where he was very happy.

Stephen was very welcoming, greeting each person with a warm smile and firm handshake. He embodied “love and acceptance”, treating everyone with respect. Stephen possessed a quick wit and willingnes­s to lend a helping hand. His late mother, Sandra, was his tireless advocate and champion. Stephen was more than a big brother to his sister, Rachel, whom he lovingly referred to as “Wowee”. He was the most influentia­l person in her life. He and his father, Keith, shared a strong and everlastin­g bond. Stephen was a proud member of UCT Council 679, New Glasgow. For those who loved and were loved by Stephen, the world will not be the same.

Surviving are his father, Keith (Joan) Lewis, Lochaber/Chance Harbour; sister, Rachel (Brian) Hammett, Alexandria, Virginia; nieces, Sera and Jillian; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was predecease­d by his everloving mother, Sandra.

The family will receive visitors from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel with Rev. Gary Tonks officiatin­g. Interment will be in Church Brook Cemetery, Little Harbour. Family flowers only. Donations can be made to HCRS Foundation, Summer Street Foundation or The Apple Tree Foundation.

The Lewis family wish to thank the wonderful people at KRRS, HCRS and Summer Street Industries for the wonderful care and support Stephen received throughout the years.
