Play On! Championships

Two local female hockey players competed in the U14 female division of the Play On! Championships held in Halifax over the weekend. Their team – The Champs – went undefeated to win the Female Howitzer division, with a 4-0 victory over the East Coast Snipers in the final game. In back from left are: Chloe Dumont (Cole Harbour), Curran Layden (Dartmouth) and Cassie Clarke (Pictou). In the middle row from left are: Mallory Thornhill and Ashley Penney (both from Dartmouth). Hockey Night in Canada’s Play On! four-on-four street hockey tournament is the country’s largest sports festival, with the Halifax championship featuring teams in more than 30 divisions. Since the program’s inception in 2003, more than two million people have participated in 144 events held across Canada.
