Durham photographer’s work included in national exhibition

-

A shot taken by Pictou County photographer Peter Tate has been selected for inclusion in a national exhibition celebrating the best of Canadian professional photography.

A panel of master photographers judged the best works submitted by professional photographers from across Canada and only accepted outstanding images into the 2017 National Image Salon of the Professional Photographers of Canada (PPOC). The salon was exhibited this week during the International Photo Conference, the annual conference of the PPOC held this year in Ottawa.

Tate’s photo was one he captured of the Snowbirds, the Canadian Forces Air Demonstration Squadron, at an airshow in Summerside, P.E.I.

In addition to demonstrating the makers’ ability to provide outstanding images for their clientele, inclusion into the salon earns merits toward

several designations offered to PPOC members, including the prestigious Craftsman of Photographic Arts and Master of Photographic Arts.

The competition features entries from across Canada in 20 different classes, including press, portrait, architecture and fashion.

Tate, who lives in Durham, and works as a paramedic and firefighter, said he has always had photography as a hobby.

“I played around with cameras

and wanted to take it to the next level.”

That led him to join the Professional Photographers of Canada and then enter this competition.

He said it was nice to have the quality of his work recognized by the association.

“It’s kind of nice when you go up against the best in the country and are still chosen,” he said.
