Sir Frederick Banting Chapter IODE meets

- Submitted by Brenda Dunn

The monthly meeting for the chapter was held at he home of Brenda Wark on May 3. Josie McInnis called the meeting to order and prayer was offered.

Roll call was taken by Marlene McLellan with 14 members in attendance; 146 volunteer hours were reported. Also, we were so favoured as to have been granted the use of the current shop location for another year.

The treasurer’s report, by Bev McGuigan, was favourable and it was decided to give a donation to the music festival.

Margie Fraser’s education report was touched on regarding bursaries. We learned there are currently 320 IODE members. Supplies were delivered to Tearmann House by Teela Billington. An interesting heritage report was given by Muriel MacDougal. It was decided we would provide a couple of meals to the Good Shepherd’s Lunchroom in the upcoming months. We plan to hold a celebration in recognition of 150 years in the near future.

Teela and Josie both attended the annual meeting in Halifax recently and Josie updated us with the information they gathered there. One of the causes we support was renamed Doctor Crocker Memorial Research Fund. Teela was presented with a past president pin by Brenda Wark. Josie declared the meeting closed.

We enjoyed a beautiful luncheon and bid a fond farewell to one of our longtime members who is moving away, but has promised to stay in touch.
