CARIBOU RIVER – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to all.

At the age of 79, she passed away peacefully with her family by her side in the Palliative Care

Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born

July 5, 1937 in Caribou River, she was a daughter of the late Austin & Doris (Hansford) Sutherland.

She became a single mother at an early age due to the sudden death of her husband. She worked for Waverley Construction and later for Northumberland Ferries from 1967 – 1984. She had a love of music and was very talented at playing several musical instruments, her most prominent being the fiddle, but her greatest love in life was her family and family gatherings. Betty is survived by her daughter, Marlene (Camille), Heathbell; son, Wilfred (Donna), Heathbell; grandsons, Joshua, Wolfville and Jeremy, Toronto; brothers, Gerald (Darrell), Caribou River; Aulden (Florence), Lyons Brook; Larry (Mary Louise), Caribou River; sisters, Phyllis Lewis (Dave), Acton, Ontario; Diane Demone (Lormer), Acton, Ontario; and very special friends, Harold & Pauline Bartlett, Peggy’s Cove.
